Uranium mining to double in Kazakhstan by 2026

In three years, the uranium production volume in Kazakhstan is expected to increase by 50 percent compared to 2023. This year, the figure has been around 21,500 tonnes, according to the Kazatomprom national atomic company. It is noteworthy that over the first 10 months, Kazakhstan has sold abroad products worth nearly $3 billion, which is one-third more than the previous year. Besides, the geography of exports is expanding. In 2021, Kazakhstan supplied uranium to eight countries, while last year, the number reached 11 states. The main buyer is China where Kazakhstan sent almost $923 million worth of uranium from January to October. As part of export diversification, Kazatomprom and the UAE signed the first-ever contract for the supply of finished products for the Barakah nuclear power plant. The document will give a new impetus to cooperation between the two countries’ companies.
