The Uly Dala Zhorygy (Great Steppe Tour) international
marathon is set to kick off in May, with preparations already in full swing.
Representatives from 15 countries are expected to take part in the event. Over
the course of five days, participants will cover a distance of 500 kilometers.
The route will pass through the picturesque and historic areas of the Almaty region.
According to the regional administration, one of the highlights of the event will
be an exhibition of pedigree horses, showcasing unique Kazakh breeds. A
national crafts fair will also be held. Notably, the international marathon
will boost the further growth of the Almaty region’s tourism appeal and enhance
the country’s sporting image.
