The housing construction savings
system is the main driver of the mortgage lending market in Kazakhstan. Nine
out of 10 loans have been issued under this system by the Otbasy Bank, as noted
by analysts of the Ranking.kz portal. Over the five months of this year,
Kazakh citizens received loans for the purchase of housing totaling 559 billion
tenge, according to the analytical portal. Loans issued by the bank account for
70 percent of the total amount, 65 percent of them were issued under the
housing construction savings system. Overall, last year the volume of loans
issued in the sector amounted to nearly two trillion tenge. In general, the
total portfolio of mortgage loans in Kazakhstan reached 4.8 trillion tenge by
May this year.
