Switzerland has invested 36 billion dollars in Kazakhstan since 2005 and is one of the country's three largest investors. But the partnership goes well beyond money. Switzerland holds 6% of Europe's fresh water reserves and has built unique expertise in water management — exactly what Central Asia needs right now. Chargé d'Affaires of the Swiss Embassy Giorgio Pompilio arrived in Kazakhstan in January and attended the regional environmental summit, where he saw firsthand that the political will to address climate challenges in the region is real.
