Taraz is one of the oldest cities in Kazakhstan, it is often called the cradle of Islamic culture in this state. Serving as one of the central links of the Great Silk Road, the city became famous during the early Middle Ages as one of the most important centers of international trade, crafts, science and culture. It was praised by great poets – Hafiz, Omar Khayyam, Rooney; the best architects of the East built palaces, mausoleums and mosques here. Torez has been repeatedly destroyed, changed names, and many of its monuments have not survived to our time or have fallen into disrepair. At the beginning of this millennium, large-scale archaeological surveys, reconstruction works and construction of new interesting objects that have already become part of tourist routes began in the city.
