Quarantine restrictions may be eased in Nur-Sultan, but only if the infection rate declines and the Kazakh capital remains in a COVID-19 ‘yellow’ zone. Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Nur-Sultan Sarkhat Beissenova said that there’s been an almost 8-percent decline in the number of new cases in the last week. The majority or 27 percent of the infected people are between 30 and 39 years of age. Over 23 percent of COVID-19 patients are older than 50. Overall, in the last month, the number of people infected with a new type of coronavirus in the city slightly exceeded 2,100. Beissenova also announced when the mass vaccination of Nur-Sultan residents will begin.
“To date, since February 1, 2,008 medical workers of Nur-Sultan received the first dose of the vaccine. Teachers and law enforcement officers will be immunized at the second stage. Then, students will be vaccinated in April. Presumably, the city residents will be able to go and get vaccinated once all vaccine priority groups, including those at risk, are immunized, which will be tentatively in May,” Beissenova said.
