Over 13,500 people have received the Kandas status in Kazakhstan since the beginning of the year. More than 55 percent of ethnic Kazakhs came to their historical homeland from Uzbekistan, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population. The rest of them came from China, Mongolia, Russia, Turkmenistan, and other countries. The ethnic migrants were resettled in various regions of Kazakhstan. For those Kandas people who move to labor-deficient regions, namely the Akmola, Abai, Kostanai, Pavlodar, East, and North Kazakhstan regions, the state provides subsidies for relocation. Housing and utilities payments are also covered by the state. In total, more than 600 ethnic Kazakhs have received support measures since the start of the year.
