Eco-friendly Nur-Sultan – the Kazakh capital follows the modern global trend of creating green city and way of life. In particular, transport. In addition to environmentally-friendly buses, police cars and rental bicycles, the city also launched an electric scooter rental. Eco scooters are expected not only to improve the environmental factor in the city, but also to reduce traffic congestion. The service is pretty easy to use. People just need to download the corresponding application, register and enter their payment card information. Then, they will need to select the scooter, scan the QR code and start the ride. The scooters have now been installed only in visual parking lots, there are about 120 of them. Conventional ones will also be launched soon. To date, there are 200 electric scooters on the city’s right and left banks. In the coming days, their number will increase twofold. And by the end of the year, their number will increase to 1,000 units. The rental price varies from 30 to 35 tenge per minute. The developers are currently also considering tariff plans.
“These scooters are an environmentally-friendly, alternative transport. Operators have access to the system by which they track which charger is used by which scooter, if a replacement is required, a mobile group arrives and changes the scooter accordingly. There is also a GPS system that, at the moment of theft, blocks the entire scooter that can no longer be unlocked,” said Gabidzhan Istambekov, General Manager of the “Astana Invest.”
On to the traffic rules when driving electric scooters. Nur-Sultan police warn that such scooters can be used by citizens over 16 years of age. They must move strictly along the bike lane. In case it is not there, then on the right side of the traffic way. It is also forbidden to drive without holding the wheel and carry passengers or cargo. The use of helmets, knee and elbow pads is advisable.
