On the verge of 19th and 20th centuries, an unknown author has photographed one of the main events in Kazakh village’s life. The sign on the picture reads: “Migration of Kyrgyz” (Kazakhs were called this until 1925). String of people on horses and camels is about to hit the road, but before, they are supposed to disassemble yurts, load their belongings and gather the livestock.
Final destination is a pasture assigned to the village in accordance with the Elder council agreement. If you look closer, you can see that there is a man with umbrella in the centre of the group. Perhaps, it is some traveller or a state official who came to supervise the migration; or a local sultan who decided to boast his curious accessory.
