Members of the Mazhilis call for tighter control over the issuance of permits for carriage and possession of firearms in the country. In particular, they ask to raise the minimum age requirement for the issuance of a license to purchase weapons from 18 to 24. Currently, in order to purchase weapons, Kazakh residents over the age of 18 need only to have standard certificates from narcological and psychoneurological dispensaries confirming that they are not registered there, Member of the Mazhilis Andrey Linnik said. MPs also call for greater protection of educational facilities as they are vulnerable as terrorist targets.
