The Kyrgyz Republic has raised admission requirements for
teaching majors, setting the passing score at 130. According to the relevant
ministry, the changes are aimed at strengthening the education system,
improving its quality, and enhancing the professional training of specialists.
This is expected to impact both the training process and the outcome—highly
qualified teachers. Overall, the Ministry of Education and Science views the
decision as an important step toward modernizing teacher education in the
country.
«The Ministry of Education and Science has raised the
passing score to 130 starting this year. This change aims to improve the
quality of education and specialist training. Notably, in 2024, the required
score was also increased from 115 to 120,» said Ainura Israilova, head of the
department at the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science.
«Our university has been allocated 596 state-funded places
for this academic year, all of which have been filled. Each year during the
admission period, several hundred applicants may compete for a single spot. For
example, last year, only 15 state-funded places were available for the «English
Teacher» and «Primary School Teacher» specializations, while the number of
applicants exceeded 200. Additionally, conditions for students in state-funded
programs have significantly improved,» said Aigul Abdraeva, Rector of Kyrgyz
State University.
According to the ministry, the higher passing score will
initially apply only to applicants for state-funded pedagogical programs. A
decision regarding other forms of admission has yet to be made.
