Starting January 1, 2026, all products sold in
Kazakhstan must carry an NTIN code from the National Product Catalogue. This
centralized digital platform will consolidate product information, eliminating
fragmented data between manufacturers, distributors, and retail chains. Each product in the catalogue will have a dedicated card containing
detailed information – from composition and country of origin to brand and
NTIN code, the Kazakh equivalent of the international GTIN barcode. Experts say
such innovations will lower business costs for product descriptions, simplify market
entry, and streamline interaction with government agencies. For the state, the system will serve
as a tool to monitor product turnover and combat counterfeiting, while for
consumers it will ensure transparency and safety. The Ministry of
Trade is urging market participants to join the pilot project to ensure a
smooth transition to the new requirements.
«In accordance with the law and the order signed by the Head of State,
from January 1 next year, all manufacturers-importers will be required to
register their goods directly in the state database. The corresponding law has
already been signed and a roadmap for implementation has already been developed
within the government. The catalogue is already linked to fiscal data
operators – including cash registers –
so NTIN codes are automatically generated on receipts. At present, the database
contains 15 million products,» said Kazakh Vice
Minister of Finance Asset Turysov.
