Kazakhstan launches Central Asia’s first new-generation supercomputer

Launching a national supercomputer is a strategic step for Kazakhstan in building its digital infrastructure, strengthening digital sovereignty, and accelerating the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This was stated by Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev, who noted that the supercomputer will be used to address a wide range of tasks, including climate change modelling, forecasting, the development of new medicines and materials, big data analysis, and the advancement of neural networks. Kazakhstan is already preparing specialists to work with this supercomputer, with the necessary training infrastructure in place.

«This technology enables extremely large-scale and high-speed computations in a single second. As you are aware, AI technologies are evolving rapidly worldwide today. This marks the next level of digitalization. We will prioritize providing computational power to Kazakh startups, especially those registered at the Astana Hub. This will serve as a form of state support to help them foster their competitiveness. The supercomputer will also be available to the scientific community for research, allowing scientists to make discoveries and obtain patents for their innovations,» Madiyev said.
