Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov discussed measures to
boost bilateral trade with Adylbek Kasymaliev, the Chairman of the Cabinet of
Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic,
who arrived in Astana on his first official visit. The talks were held in both
narrow and expanded formats. The parties noted the growth in trade between the
two countries, which reached $1.7 billion last year, with plans to nearly
double it to $3 billion by 2030. They discussed key areas of cooperation,
including trade, investment, transport, the water and energy sector,
agriculture, tourism, and culture. Particular attention was given to ensuring
water supply during the growing season along the Shu and Talas rivers, the safe
operation of the Kirov Reservoir, and regional energy security. Following the
talks, Bektenov reaffirmed the Kazakh government's commitment to sustaining the
high dynamics of trade and economic partnership with the Kyrgyz Republic.
«The heads of state have set a goal to raise trade turnover
between the two countries to $3 billion by 2030, and the government is working
toward its implementation. Over the past 15 years, Kazakhstan's investment in
the Kyrgyz economy has grown to $1.3 billion. Cultural and humanitarian ties
are also expanding. The Kazakh government remains committed to sustaining the
high dynamics of strategic partnership with the Kyrgyz Republic across all
areas,» Bektenov said.
