Kazakhstan is hosting the first
Togyzkumalak World Championship among school students. More than 150 young
athletes from 17 countries of the world are taking part in the competition for
the championship in the city of Almaty. Schoolchildren will compete in two
disciplines, namely rapid and blitz, for the title of the best players in the
ancient Kazakh board game of logic, whose total prize fund is eight million
tenge. It should be noted that togyzkumalak has been included in the program of
the World Nomad Games, which will be held in the country next year.
“The Kazakh national game Togyzkumalak has been actively developing
in recent years. To date, Togyzkumalak competitions are held in over 30
countries around the world. As a cultural heritage, it has been included in the
UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. It is our filial duty to develop and
promote the Togyzkumalak game,” said Alikhan Baimenov, President of
Togyzkumalak World Federation.
