Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of
the Security Council focused on combating drug abuse. Experts noted that the
issue is broad in scope, encompassing a range of problems, including national
security. The Head of State emphasized that the spread of this phenomenon is
becoming increasingly alarming both in Kazakhstan and globally. He stressed
that state policy must be intolerant toward the drug trade. Tokayev also
highlighted the importance of strengthening information and analytical work, as
well as monitoring the movement of controlled substances. He instructed the
government, regional governors, and responsible state agencies to step up
measures to prevent drug addiction and combat drug trafficking.
