Kazakh government discusses measures to enhance communication quality

Kazakhstan has outpaced neighboring countries, including Russia, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan, in internet speed. Currently, the share of Kazakh citizens using the internet is on par with developed countries, as announced by Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev at the Government’s meeting. He noted that the implementation of the 5G network technology in Kazakhstan will be completed in a year and a half. Over 1,100 base stations have already been installed in 20 cities. By the end of 2027, mobile operators will invest about 450 billion tenge to enhance the telecommunications sector. The ministry has developed a series of measures to improve the quality of communication, including a proposal to revise the standards for permissible doses of radiation from base stations, which are 10-20 times stricter than in developed countries.

«I request that the Health Ministry reviews the standards for the maximum permissible exposure, taking into account advanced international practices. Technical specialists from our ministry are conducting signal strength measurements in cities to ensure high-quality internet access and mobile communication. Based on the inspection results, locations with poor connection quality are identified. The ministry, together with local authorities and mobile operators, is working to eliminate blind spots. This work to improve communication quality in Kazakh cities will continue,» Madiyev said.

Additionally, a permanent task force has been established to address communication issues, consisting of representatives from the ministry, local authorities, and communication providers. A specially developed digital platform will also contribute to improving communication quality across the country. According to Madiyev, Kazakh citizens can now provide their own assessment of the quality of communication in any location.

«Today, we are announcing the technical launch of this Digital Map, with the link available on the Ministry’s website for every citizen to access. This map is currently in pilot mode, and its functionality will be expanded. This initiative aims to strengthen public oversight in checking communication quality,» Madiyev added.
