Kazakh Government adopts Healthcare Infrastructure Development Concept until 2030

Modern multidisciplinary institutions for almost 11,500 beds, including six university clinics, 14 hospitals, 11 perinatal and three national centers, will be provided to the regions of Kazakhstan within the first stage of the Healthcare Infrastructure Development Concept. The second stage will involve the modernization of 2,500 medical facilities through new construction, renovation, and upgrading. Of these, 80 percent will be primary healthcare institutions. Plans also include equipping healthcare facilities over a five-year period and implementing a model to forecast the shortage of industry specialists. These and other measures will reduce the deterioration of healthcare infrastructure by one-third. Notably, the facilities’ equipment will reach at least 88 percent. The corresponding document outlining the principles and approaches for the sector’s development until 2030 has been adopted by the Kazakh government.

«Only nine medical institutions in Kazakhstan meet the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Standards, including the National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center, the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health, and others. JCI accreditation signifies the highest level of healthcare quality that all medical institutions should aspire to. Therefore, requirements of the JCI international standard should be incorporated starting from the design stage of key projects,» said Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
