Kazakh Foreign Ministry briefs about main agenda of SCO summit

On July 3-4, Astana is set to host the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where heads of state and governments of member countries are expected to sign a series of strategic documents, including the Astana Declaration and the document «On Global Unity for a Just World and Harmony». The latter is Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative, which he announced at the SCO Heads of State Council meeting last year. The document’s development is nearing completion, aiming to promote the consolidation of international efforts to resolve conflicts in various regions of the world. Ambassador-at-Large of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry and National Coordinator for the SCO Murat Mukushev announced this in an interview with the Silk Way TV channel. According to him, the document covers security issues, establishing durable peace, economic cooperation, and environmental protection. The thematic focus of the President’s initiative is closely tied to the main agenda of the upcoming summit dedicated to the theme «Strengthening multilateral dialogue – striving for sustainable peace and development», the country’s Foreign Ministry notes.

«We deliberately chose this theme for the SCO Plus meetings. The participant roster is quite extensive, featuring over 20 heads of state, international organizations, and the UN Secretary-General. The parties are expected to exchange opinions and perspectives on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as well as issues of peace and security that have always been relevant to the global community. Thus, we considered it necessary to address the current situation and develop concrete proposals in an expanded format,» Mukushev said.
