Kazakhstan will start applying new approaches in the study of the history of the Golden Horde era. Domestic scientists have a lot of work to do on interpreting national history from the standpoint of a sovereign state. This was discussed by the participants of the international conference in Atyrau dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence. It is attended by over 150 historians, experts and archaeologists from Kazakhstan, Europe, the U.S., Turkey, Japan and Russia.
“In my view, the holding of the international conference ‘Ulyq Ulys - Altyn Orda’ in Atyrau is a historic event. Back in Soviet times, it was said that the Golden Horde belonged to the Mongols. Then a reasonable question arises, where did the Kazakhs come from? In fact, the Kazakh Khanate was formed during the disintegration of the Golden Horde. This means that the Kazakh state belongs directly to the Ulug Ulus - the Golden Horde,” said Burkitbai Ayagan, PhD in history.
“At the conference we talked about the role of the Golden Horde in shaping the identity of the Turkic peoples and its influence on the formation of their statehood. As we know, the Golden Horde era plays an important role in a very complex historical scene. These are the topics that have not been studied for a long time. Now, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, they are being equally studied both in Russia and Eurasian states,” said Serhan Cinar, PhD Candidate in History.
Starting next year, the Golden Horde era will be studied in a new way. Kazakh scientists will have to step up their efforts to search for materials in the archives of other states, as well as develop a plan for the reconstruction of the Golden Horde settlements throughout the country. The Head of State has given instructions to show the whole world the valuable exhibits of the Golden Horde era. In addition, ancient monuments and modern architectural complexes allow to effectively develop the tourism sector.
