ALZHIR was the name of Akmola
camp for the wives of traitors to the motherland. It was the 17th special
department of the USSR people’s commissariat of internal affairs camp in
Karagandy city. Most of the prisoners were relatives and family members of the so-called
traitors to the motherland.
