Kazakhstan is strengthening its position in achieving the United
Nations Sustainable Development Goals. A part of this process is Almaty's
accession to the UN Global Compact. The document will allow the city's
development centre to exchange experience with foreign partners in building a
sustainable economic environment, attract investment, and implement projects.
According to the Almaty administration, the UN Global Compact also aims to integrate
and systemize business processes and corporate culture in accordance with the SDG’s
ten basic principles. Participating organizations will have to adhere to the
principles, which include a set of fundamental responsibilities in the areas of
human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. It is worth noting that
to date, over 9,000 companies and 3,000 non-profit organizations from more than
160 countries are parties to the UN Global Compact.
