By 2025, Kazakhstan intends to have 95 percent of local roads in standard condition. This is done in order to establish the connection between the internal transport system of the regions and the center, according to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the country. By the end of 2020, the country plans to increase the share of local roads in a standard condition to 85 percent. A total of about 370 billion tenge was allocated for their construction and reconstruction this year.
“This year, construction and installation work is carried out on more than 11,000 km of public roads. 4,000 km of roads of the national network are under construction and reconstruction. Of these, works on more than 1,000 km of roads are almost completed. Almost 3,000 km of roads have been covered by major and medium repairs, about 900 km of which are nearing completion. On the local road network, 4,600 km of roads are under all types of repairs, 2,600 km of which are almost done. According to the plan for 2023, about 3,500 km of roads of national significance will be repaired,” Tolegen Abdullin, Chairperson of the Roads Committee of the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, said.
In the meantime, Superpave technology will be used to improve the asphalt pavement performance. The system makes it possible to take into account the temperature changes of each region in terms of climatic zones and intensity of road traffic. During the construction of highways, it is planned to form separate compositions of asphalt concrete mixtures, bitumen and crushed stone for each region. The given innovation will be introduced as part of the implementation of the President’s instruction to reform the road industry.
