According to the World
Health Organization (WHO), there is currently no threat of a metapneumovirus (HMPV)
pandemic worldwide. Experts note that there is no need to declare a health
emergency. Metapneumovirus is well known to doctors since it has appeared
several times before and is typically observed during the winter periods. It
causes respiratory illnesses with symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, and fever.
The WHO notes that the virus is transmitted through airborne droplets and
generally does not lead to severe consequences.
