Kazakhstan exported over three
million tonnes of wheat and meslin worth $877 million in January-May this year,
representing an increase of 17 percent, Energyprom.kz reports. Most of the domestic
products were purchased by the CIS countries, including Central Asian states
such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The top three leaders in
buying Kazakh wheat were Afghanistan, Italy and China. It bears noting that
this year the sown area in the country amounted to about 14 million hectares,
most of which is recorded in the Akmola, Kostanai and North Kazakhstan regions.
It should be noted that Kazakhstan produces an average of 13.5 million tonnes
of wheat per year, which is enough both for domestic consumption and export. In
case of unforeseen circumstances, the government is forming a reserve of one
million tonnes of wheat.
