Situation with COVID-19 in regions of Kazakhstan remains tense

The epidemiological situation in the regions of Kazakhstan remains tense. The most difficult situation is seen in Karagandy region that has been in the dark red zone since August 1. The number of cases is growing there, more and more patients in serious condition are hospitalized. As of today, 45 residents are connected to the artificial lung ventilation devices. Nearly 400 hospital beds were added in Karagandy, while the number of ambulance teams was increased to 150. Infectious diseases hospitals are now 52 percent full. Over 320,000 people have been fully vaccinated in this region.

“To date, intensive care units and inpatient facilities do not have seriously ill patients who have been vaccinated and then got infected. That is, even if vaccinated persons get infected, the disease passes in a milder form. We need to get vaccinated and develop herd immunity to maintain resilience and reach at least 70 percent threshold of the immune proportion among the population in Karagandy region,” said Gamal Toksambayev, Head of Health Department of Karagandy Region.

The number of fatalities from coronavirus is growing in the city of Shymkent. More than 300 people have died from the dangerous infection this month. The health department reported that mainly older people with concomitant diseases die from COVID-19. However, clinical trials show that there are more and more deaths from the virus among young people as well.

“The deaths are mainly among people over 60 years of age with concomitant diseases, such as diabetes, arterial hypertension or other chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. But in comparison with 2020, COVID-19 affects young people now. We have patients who are 40 years old, or even citizens who are 35 years old,” noted Bakytzhan Pozilov, Head of Health Department of Shymkent city.

The incidence rate in West Kazakhstan region has decreased. The number of infected declined two times in the region that is in the red zone. Quarantine measures will be eased there. Public transport will resume work this weekend. Open markets also returned to normal working schedule. Restrictions will remain for shopping malls, catering facilities and other establishments.
