Kazakhstan to double gross agricultural output by 2028

Kazakhstan plans to double the volume of gross agricultural production by 2028. The country intends to fully provide itself with all basic food products and export them. Priority is given to the deep processing of agricultural products. Diversification of crop areas is currently being carried out in the country. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the areas under wheat have been reduced, while the sowing of oilseeds and sugar beet has increased. Besides, starting this year, subsidies are being allocated for the development of dairy and poultry farms, as well as other areas of agriculture in demand on the market. These and other measures are outlined in the Roadmap for 2024-2028, whose tasks were discussed at a government meeting. It was noted that one of the key measures is attracting investments in the sector. This year, it is planned to attract at least 1.7 trillion tenge. Providing support to farmers is also under special control.

«This year, significant funds have been allocated for spring fieldwork and the leasing of agricultural machinery. The volume of preferential lending has reached 580 billion tenge for the first time, whereas in previous years, it did not exceed 180 billion tenge. This allowed farmers to carry out all necessary agrotechnical measures. Financing channels were fully expanded, including through the involvement of agricultural cooperatives. Direct subsidies to financial institutions and loan guarantees for agribusiness entities have been introduced,» said Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
