Kazakhstan pursues balanced and pragmatic foreign policy, President Tokayev says

2024 will become a milestone year for Kazakhstan, laying the foundation for a five-year development cycle for the country. It will be marked by Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in several influential regional and international organizations and associations. Additionally, a series of prestigious summits and forums are planned. Thus, the Astana International Forum 2024 is scheduled to take place in the Kazakh capital in June, with the participation of leaders from various states and international companies. Kazakhstan will once again affirm its role as a global platform for discussing worldwide issues, including topics such as climate change, food shortages, and energy security. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed the country’s approach to developing mutually beneficial and pragmatic cooperation with foreign partners and neighbors in an interview with the Egemen Qazaqstan newspaper.

“We will continue pursuing a constructive and balanced foreign policy, taking into account the national interests of the state. In 2024, our country is set to host a series of prestigious summits and forums. Kazakhstan will hold the chairmanship in several reputable international organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the Organization of Turkic States, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, and the Islamic Organization for Food Security,” Tokayev said.

In his interview, the Head of State underscored the importance of regional cooperation. The dynamically developing Central Asia holds extensive opportunities in trade, investments, business, and innovation, which is recognized on a global scale. Therefore, there is an increased interest in the region from influential external players, accompanied by a growing demand for the C5+ dialogue platform. Moreover, Kazakhstan is actively developing political dialogue and strategic partnerships with neighboring countries, particularly with Russia. Cooperation between the two states takes place within multilateral structures, addressing issues related to ensuring regional stability and international security. Last year marked the launch of the 30th golden anniversary of relations with China, Kazakhstan’s eastern neighbor, described as exemplary by President Tokayev. It is worth noting that the mutual trade turnover in the past year demonstrated unprecedented growth.

“At present, China is a highly developed country, including in the field of high technology. The whole world recognizes this. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for Kazakhstan to cooperate with our eastern neighbor, effectively leveraging all the advantages of such friendly relations and mutual trust,” Tokayev added.
