Kazakhstan aims to become an educational hub of Central
Asia. To date, over 31,000 international students are studying at Kazakh
universities. Each year, the government allocates funds to attract around 200
foreign scientists. The relevant ministry collaborates with partners from
various countries, having established 34 strategic agreements with universities
across 12 states. Additionally, 16 foreign university branches have been opened
in Kazakhstan, with most programs and specializations focused on technical
fields. The country is also implementing a national model for engineering
personnel training, developed in accordance with international standards and
experience in the country. Overall, engineering programs are offered at 54
universities nationwide, with more than 100,000 students enrolled.
«The new model primarily focuses on early career guidance by
introducing engineering classes in schools, as well as the full integration of
technical universities with industry. The Higher Education and Science
Development Concept provides for a transition to an advanced workforce planning
model, implemented through the «Mamandygym-Bolashagym» project. The initiative
involves 20 universities across 17 regions of the country. In nine of them,
regional atlases of professions have been developed for 45 industries,
identifying more than 500 new professions,» said Gulzhan Jarassova, Deputy
Chairperson of the Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher
Education.
