Kazakh project enters top 5 space startups in California

The IoT Satellite development by the Kazakh SpaceLab has entered the top five startups in the heart of Silicon Valley. Its unique feature is that it is capable of monitoring activities at deposits, determining water levels in rivers, and measuring soil temperature on agricultural lands. The IoT Satellite transmits data from hard-to-reach areas where there is no communication or internet via satellite. The innovation of the domestic company specializing in space technologies makes it possible to send and receive information from any point in the world.

«The project aims to transmit critical data via domestic geostationary satellites, namely KazSat-2 and KazSat-3. This critical data serves for some telemetry, for instance, in the fields of gas, weather, seismic activity, and others. The system will be relevant for situations and locations without access to standard communication methods, including cellular networks or the commonly used internet. The data needs to be transmitted quickly and reliably,» said Valikhan Aiguzhin, embedded engineer of the company.

The startup is compatible with other satellite networks, providing greater freedom of choice for enterprises. The relevance of the development for the market lies in its ability to optimize processes across various industries. The developers have conducted a series of pilot tests and are now working on increasing data transfer speeds. They are also engaged in expanding the functionality of the equipment. This will allow hospitals in remote areas of Kazakhstan to connect to the system as well as transmit patient data to major clinics and medical centers.

«It primarily allows tracking data in real-time and making decisions based on that data. Thus, if something is not properly secured at a site or something is malfunctioning, an engineer or top management must determine whether the equipment is operating and whether everything is fully closed. Moreover, our equipment allows to control your own equipment,» said Dauren Aubakirov, co-founder, development director.

The domestic development is in demand in both Kazakhstan and African countries, which are also showing interest in the product, with Ethiopia having already requested a pilot launch. Besides, the company is working on scaling the project to the markets of North and South America, and the United Arab Emirates.
