French company Alstom has begun constructing several electric locomotive maintenance centers in Kazakhstan, with the first center in the Zhambyl region scheduled to open in early 2025. This was announced during a meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and the company’s head. As a key investor in Kazakhstan’s railway industry, Alstom has invested around 120 million euros in construction, technology transfer, and training of Kazakh specialists over ten years. Additionally, Bektenov discussed the implementation of green technologies in the railway sector with Rafael Santana, President and CEO of Wabtec Corporation. The U.S. company is promoting the localization of locomotive production in Kazakhstan and plans to invest around $200 million over the next 10 years in the development of new products using alternative fuels. Kazakhstan is also set to open production facilities for ultrasound diagnostic devices and CT scanners. Bektenov discussed the implementation of these projects with the Regional President of GE HealthCare. The parties also intend to create a National Archive of Clinical Images. Moreover, the Prime Minister reviewed projects for the deep processing of Kazakh agricultural products with the head of China’s Fufeng Group. In Kazakhstan, there are plans to launch an industrial park for processing corn and wheat, which will enable the production of high-value-added products such as starch and amino acids. The project’s investment volume is expected to be around $300-350 million.
«We plan to implement both projects in several stages. In the first stage, we aim to produce one million tonnes of corn and 700,000 tonnes of coal chemical products. Following this, we will increase production volumes in both areas. We will be actively involved in the corn cultivation process and will enter into agreements with farmers to provide fertilizers and technology,» said Fufeng Group Chairman Li Xuechun.
