The level of gasification in Kazakhstan is
growing, with over 1.7 million people gaining access to gas in the past three
years. Chairman of the QazaqGaz national company Sanzhar Zharkeshov reported
these results to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, highlighting the completion of
constructing the linear section of the Taldykorgan-Usharal gas pipeline, which
will bring gas to 66 more settlements. Kazakhstan has also started building a
plant for transshipment and fractionation of liquefied petroleum gas at the
Kashagan field, alongside a carbamide coal chemical plant. Zharkeshov noted
growing volumes of Russian gas transit through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan and major
repairs on the Central Asia-Center main gas pipeline. This will significantly
strengthen Kazakhstan’s role as a key link in the regional energy sector.
«The national company is moving to the next
stage of gas sector development with the launch of megaprojects. In the
upstream segment, geological exploration is underway at the Akkuduk and Severny-2
sites. Subsoil use contracts have been signed with investors for the Severny-1
block. A joint exploration agreement has also been signed with the national
company CNPC. In the midstream segment, significant progress has been achieved
as well. The Taldykorgan-Usharal main gas pipeline is set to be commissioned
ahead of schedule, bringing gas supply to 66 settlements in the Zhetisu region.
Work has commenced on the second line of the Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent main gas
pipeline, the largest infrastructure project in the country,» Zharkeshov said.
