A unified digital platform for
libraries will be launched in pilot mode in Kazakhstan this year. Primarily
focused on large book repositories, the platform aims to streamline the
operations of over 11,000 libraries currently utilizing various information
systems and catalogs. The automated single platform will help organize the
country’s book inventory. With this, readers can easily find the volume they
need or its digital version. The platform also provides an online function for
replenishing the library collection, extending its utility to publishing
houses. For example, newly published works can be uploaded to the system,
accessible via a paid subscription. This approach serves to protect the
interests of private publishers and authors. In addition, this year, Kazakhstan
will introduce unified electronic library cards with access to all libraries.
Users will be able to register and receive these cards through the e-government
portal.
