This year, farmers in the Zhetisu region have harvested a
record sugar beet crop. Given that the harvesting campaign continues, this
figure is expected to grow. It is estimated that the volume of harvested
products will exceed 600,000 tonnes. According to farmers, such results are
achieved thanks to new technologies.
«I think such indicators are the result of scientific
advancements. We harvest 700-750 centners of sugar beet per hectare. This is at
least where we started, and we hope to achieve an even greater yield,» said farmer
Timur Mamatayev.
Overall, to develop sugar production, farmers in the region
receive state support: subsidies are provided for fuel and lubricants, seeds,
fertilizers, and irrigation water. As a result, sown areas are increasing annually.
«If in 2022 we sowed 4,000 hectares of sugar beet, in 2023
we increased the sown area to 8,700 hectares. Work in this direction is in full
swing this year as well,» noted Nurdaulet Kenenbayev, head of the Department of
Agriculture of the Zhetisu region.
Thanks to the high yield, sugar factories have
also increased their production capacities. They are now accepting sugar beets
around the clock. This year, the enterprises plan to produce a total of about
90,000 tonnes of sugar.
