Domestic pediatric surgeons are learning from their Turkish counterparts. Masterclasses are held in the Multidisciplinary City Children’s Hospital No. 2 in the Kazakh capital. In just three days, several patients will undergo surgery there. All of them had to go for expensive treatment abroad. But thanks to these masterclasses, the children will be operated on for free and in their homeland. Among the patients is a 15-year-old Dias Akylbai. The teenager has liver echinococcosis. It is a parasite that gradually affects the organ and one cannot do without surgical intervention.
“They found a cyst in his liver during an ultrasound scan in Kokshetau. They sent us to the capital. We arrived here and we heard that there were masterclasses of foreign surgeons in this hospital. We were admitted, the surgery was performed successfully and literally in 30-40 minutes. I want to express my gratitude to the specialists of the medical institution, our state, which gives such an opportunity, and, of course, to Turkish doctors,” said Naryzgul Massygutova, mother of Dias Akylbai.
If previously such a surgery was done with the help of incisions, thanks to new technologies, the parasite was removed from the boy’s liver with a puncture.
“The emphasis in Western medicine is on the implementation of surgical treatment without incisions, by puncturing the anterior abdominal wall. Therefore, it is less harmful for the children,” said Rinat Baigireyev, Head of Surgical Unit, City Multidisciplinary Children’s Hospital No. 2
“We performed surgeries on gallstones, and also removed a cyst from the liver. All surgeries were broadcast live. After that, together with colleagues, we analyzed in detail each step taken during the surgical intervention. This is a visual aid for the training of pediatric surgeons,” said Burak Tander, a surgeon from Turkey.
Such a unique cooperation began thanks to the memorandum concluded between the two countries. Masterclasses on the basis of the Multidisciplinary City Children’s Hospital No. 2 will now be held on an ongoing basis. The plan of surgeries that will be carried out during training is scheduled until the end of the year. And this means that dozens of children will get a chance to live a healthy life.
