Aleksandr Zatayevich: savior of the Kazakh musical heritage

Aleksandr Zatayevich became a truly unique figure in the history of Kazakhstan. A musician and art enthusiast, he arrived in the Kazakh steppes and discovered the world of folk songs and instrumental melodies. He dedicated his life to recording and preserving Kazakh music, which had been passed down orally and was at risk of being lost under the influence of Soviet ideology.
