During Al Jazeera Week in Astana,
leaders from the Qatari television company met with the team of the TV and
Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan to familiarize themselves with the
operations of Kazakhstan’s largest media holding. The guests were introduced to
the creative and technical capabilities of the TV channels Silk Way, Silk Way
Cinema, Jibek Joly, as well as to those of the Kazinform agency and the
Documentary Film Center. As a reminder, the International School of Journalism
at Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU) is hosting lectures and training sessions
on contemporary media topics for both students and experienced journalists as
part of the event. In February 2024, the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio
Complex and leaders of the Qatari media industry signed a memorandum on a wide
range of bilateral cooperation.
“Kazakhstan as a country is
developing in so many ways, and I think there is a real desire and
determination to develop the media in the country, which is a very important
tool to help development. For us, starting this training is the first step. And
I believe we can think about what other things that we can do. We have so many
courses, so many possibilities to help. So, in case we decide in the future to
expand in Central Asia, Kazakhstan would be one of the countries considered.
So, we have a lot of work to be done; this is just the first step,” said Mostefa
Souag, Acting Director General of Al Jazeera Media Network.
