Kentau is a small town in the Turkistan region. The city which appeared mainly due to the development of the Achisai lead-zinc deposit became a home to many descendants of those who were repressed in the Soviet years. Among them are Greeks, Russians, Koreans, Chechens, Germans and Tatars. The parents of the hero of our program Farit Ayupov also came to seek happiness in Kentau. Farit was born and raised here. Today he is the head of the city’s children and youth sports school. He warmly recalls his childhood that he spent among different nationalities that lived together in harmony. He says that there were no cases of ethnic conflicts in his hometown.
