Over the next two years, more
than 640 billion tenge will be allocated for the development of science in
Kazakhstan. According to the country’s Vice Minister of Science and Higher
Education Darkhan Akhmed-Zaki, the funding for the industry will be carried out
in stages, with a part directed to scientific institutes engaged in fundamental
research. Currently, 13 institutes in the country receive direct funding, and
next year, an additional 28 scientific centers will join them. It is noteworthy
that by 2025, science funding will amount to one percent of the country’s GDP.
“On March 28 of this year, the
Concept for the Development of Higher Education and Science in the Republic of
Kazakhstan for 2023-2029 was adopted. In this document, we have outlined the
main objectives related to the quality of education. This involves various
mechanisms such as increasing the number of scientists, fortifying the
scientific ecosystem, enhancing the contribution of science to the economy,
strengthening university education, and improving science management,” said Akhmed-Zaki.
Kazakhstan launches new housing
program for young scientists
It bears noting that a new
housing program has also been launched as part of supporting science and
engaging youth in Kazakhstan. The five-year project is open to domestic
researchers up to the age of 40 (inclusive). They are provided with the
opportunity to obtain a mortgage loan with an initial down payment of 10
percent, and the annual interest rate is set at five percent.
