Kazakhstan has concluded its
chairmanship of the Dialogue of Women of Central Asia. The outcomes of the work
were summed up at an international conference themed ‘Combating Gender-Based
Violence in the Region: Exploring Efficient and Sustainable Collective
Solutions’. At the meeting, participants issued a joint statement supporting
the establishment of legislative and legal mechanisms for the protection and
support of women. It was also announced that the chairmanship in this dialogue
has been passed to Kyrgyzstan. During its one-year chairmanship, Kazakhstan
addressed crucial issues such as the development of innovation and technology,
global peace and security, climate change, and the roles of women and youth in
the fight against terrorism and extremism.
“We focus on enhancing skills
specifically in the field of digital technologies. For example, the
Technovation Girls STEAM program is designed to increase women's knowledge in
digitalization. We have implemented this regional UN development program, which
can be considered a form of preventive diplomacy, in Kazakhstan, along with
putting forward a series of proposals to enhance the literacy of women living
in remote areas of the country,” said Zhuldyz Suleimenova, Member of the
Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament.
“I would like to highlight
Kazakhstan’s success in uniting the efforts of all Central Asian states and
women leaders from our nations in exchanging legislative initiatives in the
field of gender equality. This includes implementing parliamentary oversight of
government decisions and laws pertaining to women’s interests. Most
importantly, it succeeded in uniting the efforts of non-governmental
organizations. Furthermore, I believe that during Kazakhstan’s chairmanship, a
significant achievement has been bringing our dialogue to the international
level,” said Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of
the Republic of Uzbekistan.
