Wooden mosque in Zharkent is a unique building. Islamic architecture in combination with the appearance of a Buddhist temple - is a very rare finding in Central Asia. The origins of these styles’ combination should be sought in the history of the time when the temple was built which is the end of the 19th century. back then the Great Silk Road passed through Zharkent, which is located on the border with China. The location of Zharkent on the Silk Road contributed to its rapid growth and development. Despite of this situation the Zharkent mosque experienced a lot of tests.
