City on the Irtysh. Appeared in 1718, then Semipalatinsk, and today Semey just recently celebrated its 300th anniversary.
Due to its location at the crossroads of major trade routes, after its foundation it almost immediately became an important military and commercial point between the Russian Empire, Central Asia and Western China.
Semey grew and changed, the old merchant houses disappeared from the face of the earth, freeing up space for factories and residential areas. But to this day in Semey many buildings have been preserved, which can rightly be considered prominent monuments of bygone times.
