Herold Belger was some kind of a mythical character, the epitome of everything holy and decent in Kazakh culture. He was an intellectual man, polyglot, professional translator and writer, who had mastered his knowledge of languages to an unprecedented level. Ger aga, as he was called by many people, knew every single aspect of Kazakh language, as well its literature and linguistics. He used to lament that not all Kazakhs fully realise the wealth and beauty of their mother tongue.
